The 8th Del Mar Nationals presented by Meguiar’s takes over the legendary Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend April 4, 5 & 6! Over 2,500 rods, customs and classics are expected for the three day event which features both indoor and outdoor car shows, hundreds of vendor exhibits, swap meet & cars for sale corral, hot rod seminars, and the spectacular return of recording artists “Lil Elmo and the Cosmos!”

This year’s Del Mar Nationals will pay tribute to two San Diego area drag racing legends. Don “The Snake” Prudhomme of Vista and Dale Armstrong of Temecula, both with famed drag racing careers will be honored by Goodguys as the official “Hot Rod Heroes” of the Del Mar Nationals. Both Prudhomme and Armstrong will be on hand Saturday, April 5th to participate in a special “meet & greet” seminar with fans. The seminar, in which fans can interact with and ask questions to both racing legends, is scheduled for noon Saturday inside the Mission Tower. There will also be an autograph session with both Heroes Saturday from 2-4pm inside the Pat O’Brien Hall.

Another event highlight will be the crowning of the Goodguys 2008 Street Rod d’Elegance. An indoor display of over one hundred of the country’s finest 1949 and earlier street rods will be in contention for the award.  The winner not only receives national bragging rights, but drives off with a cool cash prize and a hand-sculpted trophy.

Sunday’s awards ceremony will be held at 2:22pm showcasing over 100 of the event’s top cars and will also feature the ceremony to crown the Street Rod d’ Elegance. The ceremony will be held inside the word famous Del Mar horse paddock.
