A pair of hot rodders who built their own cars were honored this week by Goodguys and Speedway Motors as the national winners of the Speedway Motors “Homebuilt Heaven” competition. The competition is divided into two distinctive categories: Homebuilt Heaven (contemporary street rod, truck or custom through ’72 vintage) and Traditional Homebuilt Heaven (traditional hot rod, truck or custom through ’72 vintage). At every 2010 Goodguys National event last season, a finalist was picked in each category.
The 2010 Homebuilt Heaven National winner is Bob & Mitzi Provin of Newton, Iowa. The Provin’s were originally picked as Homebuilt Heaven award winners at the season-ending Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale. Their stylish pearl white ’56 Olds 88 features a 462 CID Olds motor, custom champagnepearl interior, custom console, lots of clean chrome, wide whites and Olds Fiesta hubcaps.
The Traditional Homebuilt Heaven winner is Don Andrews of Hayward, California. Don’s super straight ’35 Ford pickup was chosen as a finalist at the 17th Summer Get-Together in Pleasanton. The pearl green pick’em up sports a sweet hot rod stance, gorgeous two-tone interior, Stewart Warner gauges, lots of bright work and rolls on American 5 spokes.
Each winner was selected via online voting which was held the entire month of January 2011 on www.good-guys.com. Both winners will receive a special $500 shopping spree at www.speedwaymotors.com.
