Goodguys and the entire hot rodding community have lost a good friend way too early. Steve “Coopy” Avilla died after a short illness March 16. He was 53. A resident of Fremont, California, “Coopy” was a regular at Goodguys events and other west coast car activities for the last 30 years. He owned several cars but was known far and wide for his blue ’32 Ford 3 window.
Steve’s passion for the world champion San Francisco Giants equaled his passion for hot rods. He was known for years as the “guy with all the pins on his hat” at Giants home games. His seats, in close proximity to the bullpen, frequently allowed television cameras to capture him when relief pitchers started their warm-ups.
Steve carried the Goodguys banner proudly over the years. He worked our events, promoted our events in his free time and spread hot rodding cheer wherever he went. His memorial service will be held at the 29th All American Get-Together in Pleasanton this Saturday @ 1pm. He had attended all prior 28 Get-Together’s. We will miss you “Coopy.”
