Joe Proski’s ’50 Merc named Goodguys 2011 Mother’s West Coast Custom of the Year!

Long time Goodguys member and custom car collector Joe Proski of Glendale, Arizona took home the Goodguys 2011 Mother’s West Coast Custom of the Year award at the 29th All American Get-Together in Pleasanton. Proski’s flawless merlot hued ‘50 Merc was reincarnated last year by Doug Jerger and the crew at Squeeg’s Customs. Many remember the Merc from years past when it was eggplant purple, running black wall tires and Boyd’s wheels.

After years of running the car in its 90’s trim, Squeeg Jerger, a longtime friend, talked Joe into a complete overhaul, transforming the car from a dated custom rod into a timeless, traditional custom. The Squeeg’s team did yeoman’s work relocating the bumpers, adding a drip rail, reworking the doors and new grill, completely reworking the interior and smoothing it all out before applying the custom mixed PPG merlot paint.

Joe spent his entire professional career as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Arizona Suns NBA team but now enjoys retirement behind the wheel of his award winning Merc custom.

From Pleasanton, Proski will bring the Merc to the Goodguys 11th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals to display with Darryl Wolfswinkel’s ’34 Ford (also built by Squeeg’s) which was named America’s Most Beautiful Roadster.

Congratulations to Joe and the gang at Squeeg’s on the big win as well as all the finalist’s for this year’s Mother’s West Coast Custom of the Year which included Richard Zochhi (1946 Lincoln Club Coupe), Michael Garner ( 1951 Mercury), Daryl Ducommun (1950 Ford) and Robb Robinson (1965 Buick Riviera).

Watch for a full feature of Proski’s Merc in a coming issue of the Goodguys Goodtimes Gazette.
