Mike Maier

Maier was on track to be a racer since birth. The youngest of the three sons born to Maier Racing Enterprises (MRE) owner, Bill Maier, Mike grew up racing on the autocross circuit. Throughout the years, Mike and MRE have etched their names in the record books by racing, building and servicing the Ford performance market. When he’s not on an autocross track, Mike can be found at anything from a USAC Midget race to a Vintage race, driving and setting up cars for fellow competitors.

The list of Maier’s accomplishments behind the wheel is simply astounding. It’s pretty clear he’s the man to beat in Columbus. He’s won three consecutive championships in the SCCA “C Prepared” National run offs. He was C Prepared Champion of the SCCA American Autocross from ’03-’06 among other titles. He still holds the track record at two California ovals from his days of driving the USAC Ford Focus Midget to coincide with his multiple Feature wins. He’s won the Street Machine class at Goodguys AutoCross’s a half dozen times. He’s fast, he’s focused and he has a brand new toy to flog in Columbus.

Although his blue 1966 Mustang might look familiar on the outside, it’s a whole new ball game when it comes to the drive train and suspension set up. A newly installed Roush Yates Nationwide 358ci NASCAR engine is backed by a NASCAR spec 4-speed manual gearbox from C&R Racing. The beastly engine is cooled by a custom radiator from C&R Racing. The car will utilize a slightly new front suspension from Maier Racing, including shocks from JRI and a newly designed tubular A-arm/coil over set up. The rear suspension is also of Mike Maier’s own design. It utilizes a laid over coil over in the trunk, with a Watt’s Link and Torque Arm.

Maier will run Bridgestone’s Potenza RE-11 tires for the ultimate grip. Catch him if you can!
