This weekend’s Goodguys 5th PEAK Chicagoland Nationals is full of exciting activities for the entire family! One of the highlights will be the Route 66 Classic Friday Night Drags at Route 66 Raceway across the street from Chicagoland Speedway! An entire evening of vintage drag racing action is in store. Renowned drag racing artist and historian Kenny Youngblood will serve as the evening’s Grand Marshal.
Instead of actual eliminations, the event will be staged as a test n’ tune format, allowing a relaxed, nostalgic atmosphere. The event is an open Test & Tune so any year, make or model of car is encouraged to participate. All 1972 and older cars will be paired together in specific staging lanes to insure the vintage sheet metal is racing side-by-side.
Several exhibition vehicles will use the open track to test their machines and get in some track time. Exhibition cars scheduled to appear include Tom Motry’s “Drastic Plastic” AA/FA Anglia, Rocky Ausec’s “Solid Rock” Mach 1 Mustang Nostalgia Funny Car as well as the Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins Nostalgia Pro Stock tribute Camaro and Lee Shepherd tribute Camaro.
Spectator tickets will be sold at Goodguys event registration and at Route 66 Raceway. General admission is $15. Kids 12 and under are free. Race fee is $25. For more, visit www.route66raceway.com/classic
