The 5th annual Goodguys Editor’s Shootout AutoCross – a special event featuring the editors of national automotive magazines, websites and television programs is set for this Saturday, March 31st in Del Mar. The Shootout, one of many featured attractions at the Goodguys 12th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals, pits the editor’s against one another racing against the clock to see who can log the fastest 3 lap average around the course.
Several popular editors have signed on including 2 time winner Nick LiCata of Camaro Performers, Jeff Smith of Car Craft, Johnny Hunkins of Popular Hot Rodding, the Goodguys Gazette’s Kirk Jones, Chad Reynolds of Bangshift.com and others. Local favorite’s Mark Maynard – Auto Editor of the San Diego Union Tribune and Dave Stall – San Diego’s favorite TV and radio gearhead will also try their luck.
The competitors will drive sponsor vehicles in the competition including the ’63 Nova from the Detroit Speed & Engineering stable as well as Ridetech’s ’68 Camaro. A third vehicle will also be used but will not be announced until the day of the competition (intruiging eh?)
The Editor’s Shootout will kick off at 12:30pm on Saturday. Keep in mind, The Goodguys AutoCross course will be open Friday through Sunday and is free to all event participants who have a registered vehicle in the show!
