LiCata wins Editor’s Shootout AutoCross in Del Mar

-Nick LiCata is all smiles in the winners circle after his 3rd win in 5 years. Kyle and Stacy Tucker of Detroit Speed joined him in celebration

Camaro Performers editor Nick LiCata won the 5th annual Goodguys Editor’s Shootout AutoCross today in Del Mar, tasting victory in the specialty event for the 3rd time in five years. In fact, Camaro Performers Magazine staffers have won all five runnings with tech editor Steven Rupp and columnist Mary Pozzi also getting wins in prior years.

Ten national magazine editors lined up to do battle today in 3 distinct vehicles; the Detroit Speed ’63 Chevy II, the Ridetech ’68 Camaro and Scott Call’s ’67 Ford F-100.

LiCata was consistently the fastest and smoothest driver on the day, logging sub ‘34-second lap times in 2 of the three vehicles. His average 3-lap time was 34.352. Finishing runner-up was Steven Rupp from Chevy Hi-Performance and rounding out the top 3 was Chad Reynolds of Bangshift.com. Reynolds, also the resident announcer for Goodguys AutoCross events around the country, was the most spectacular on the day, sending the Detroit Speed ’63 Chevy II into a full drift in turn one, clipping and launching a cone some 20 feet into the air (the crowd went wild).

Congratulations to the Camaro Performers crew. They are simply dominant which begs the question…Can anyone beat these guys?
