Introducing the Goodguys-Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt Winners!

The Goodguys Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt national awards have been announced!

Mike Toberman has been named the 2011 Speedway Motors Homebuilt Heaven winner for his ’55 Chevy, while Lee Abrahams has scooped up the 2011 Speedway Motors Traditional Homebuilt prize with his ’54 Kaiser. Both winners were selected by popular vote from among the Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt award recipients selected at all 20 Goodguys events in 2011.

Toberman, who hails from Anaheim, California, cruised down the coast in his ’55 Chevy to last year’s Del Mar Nationals, where his orange-and-black beauty earned its initial Homebuilt Heaven pick. Rolling on five-spoke Intro wheels and powered by a 400-inch small-block, the sharp Chevy showcases a high level of detail, highlighted by custom interior stitched by Armando’s Upholstery.

Abrahams’ Kaiser has a 50-year history behind its Traditional Homebuilt award. Abrahams first acquired the rare Darrin as a teen in Cleveland, Ohio, building it into a racecar in the early-’60s. Abrahams relocated to Tucson, Arizona shortly afterward, where he eventually sold the car in the early-’70s. In 2007, Abrahams managed to relocate the car’s body and set to work rebuilding it to its racing form, complete with a Hilborn-injected big-block Chevy. The unique Kaiser was chosen for a Traditional Homebuilt pick at the Goodguys Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale last fall.

To commemorate their wins, both Toberman and Abrahams will receive a $500 Speedway Motors gift card, plus a personalized Speedway Motors jacket. Both cars have also been featured in the 2012 Goodguys Yearbook.

With the 2012 Goodguys event season already underway, Speedway Motors, America’s oldest speed shop, returns as the proud sponsor of the Homebuilt Heaven and Traditional Homebuilt areas and awards at all 20 Goodguys events this season.
