Meadors Sets Career Speed Mark in Season Opener, Wins Event

-Goodguys President Marc Meadors is all smiles after winning last weekend in Sacramento

Pleasanton, CA – The Goodguys Racing team led by company President Marc Meadors brought home a big win and a career best speed this past weekend as they made their seasonal debut at Sacramento Raceway Park’s Pacific National Open competing in the “Pro Slammer” exhibition class. Driving the flamed “Pure Hell2” ’69 Camaro Pro Mod, Meadors and the Goodguys team ran into trouble during qualifying, over revving the car’s potent hemi engine while trying some new parts on the car. Despite the trouble, they were able to manage the 4th position on the final qualifying sheet.

Following a huge thrash heading into Sunday’s final eliminations, the team was able to pull together last year’s winning combination for a 6.13/242mph pass to get an opening-round win over Chuck Moore ’63 Corvette. With breakage plaguing fellow competitors, Meadors breezed right into the final to face Monty Berney’s ’55 Chevy. Showing their old confidence and race-day experience, Meadors piloted “Pure Hell2” to a convincing final round 6.10 @ 248.28mph blast to Berney’s game 6.38 @ 220. It was the fastest speed Meadors had ever recorded in his 4-year Pro Mod racing career.

Considering the drama and problems in qualifying, the event win was gratifying. “We had new parts & pieces on the car during qualifying and weren’t getting anywhere,” said Meadors. “We put last year’s combination back in the car and went straight down the track twice including the infamous Sacramento Raceway left lane. We even managed Low ET of the first round and I ran my best speed ever running top speed of the meet.”

“It was ugly Saturday evening after qualifying. We had the motor down to the short block, rods & pistons lying around everywhere. It wasn’t the easiest of weekend’s maintenance wise. But we hit a nice stride on Sunday and took home the trophy which was nice for the guys.”

In other event news, Marc’s son Grant, 9, won his first-ever round of competition during Junior Dragster eliminations but broke out by one one-thousandth of a second in his quarter final race. The Goodguys racing Team will be out testing Memorial Day weekend before returning to Sacramento Raceway in early June for another Pro Slammer event.
