Sun Sets on 2012 Season

-Brilliant sunshine, enthusiastic crowds and cool cars highlighted the Goodguys 2nd Fall Del Mar Nationals presented by Meguiar's

The curtain closed  on the Goodguys 2012 event season yesterday on a spectacular sunny fall afternoon in Del Mar, California. Del Mar has long had a certain romance to it. The Goodguys Fall Del Mar Nationals presented by Meguiar’s is held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds – home to the world famous Del Mar racetrack – long a playground for the Golden State’s elite. Built in 1937 by Bing Crosby and Pat O’Brien with funding from Paramount Studios, the Del Mar fairgrounds in steeped in royalty. Goodguys first visited here in 2001 and it soon became evident this was “THE” place to host a Goodguys event in Southern California.

-A spectacular gathering of woodies highlighted the indoor portion of the show

Like its sister event held each spring, the Fall Del Mar Nationals features both indoor and outdoor activity set in a majestic coast side atmosphere. The cars and crowds fill the main drag with palm trees swaying lazily overhead. With the usual quiet fall weather pattern and brilliant sunshine prevailing – the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting.

Held Thanksgiving weekend, the spirit of the event is all about being thankful. At the front gate, members of the U.S. Marines collect goodies for a Toys 4 Tots toy drive. Instead of cramming into local malls – those with motor oil in their veins prefer to spend “Black Friday” gawking at rods & customs. The vibe is unlike any other Goodguys event produced.

-The Nitro Thunderfest featured vintage top fuel dragsters

The finest rods, customs, classics, tricked out trucks and muscle cars in the western U.S. came out for one last big weekend and were rewarded with over 90 special award picks. The complete award winner list can be found here.

Smaller events within the big event took place all over the grounds. The special indoor woodie exhibit attracted dozens of wooden wonders while the “Nitro Thunderfest” rattled eardrums with five of the best vintage top fuel dragsters spewing large doses of sweet smelling nitromethane.

-Bret Voelkel won the Street Rod class as well as the PRO class championship in the Goodguys AutoCross

We left Del Mar Sunday evening extremely thankful and full of gratitude for a memorable 2012 season. We’re thankful to be able to produce events for the best members and fans in the world! Have a wonderful holiday season. We’ll see you again soon.
