They say when the sun is shining, the Pacific Northwest is simply “God’s Country.” It’s hard to argue with that. With millions of green trees, flowing rivers, shimmering crystal blue waters and majestic Mt Rainier towering above the Puget Sound – the awe inspiring beauty of the region makes any hot rodder swallow hard. This is the only Goodguys national event at which the scent of pine trees are as pungent as exhaust fumes!
The Goodguys 26th Wesco Autobody Supply Pacific Northwest Nationals had it all – top notch show cars, sunny warm weather (with a cooler, marine-layer infused Sunday), a frantic Friday Nite Vintage Drags show and all the trimmings of a big time Goodguys shin dig.
Held at the inviting Washington State Fair and Events Center, the Pacific Northwest Nationals has a unique flavor all its own. Traditions like the pin striper’s “Brush Bash”, the overflowing “Canadian Corral”, nightly parties and wide cruise lanes make it uniquely charming. These folks know how to party. Another distinguishing characteristic here in Puyallup is a full-blown old fashioned carousel with hand carved, hand-painted horses. It’s a sure-winner for the little rodders!
New to this year’s event was the first-ever Goodguys Northwest Hot Rod Week. Similar to the annual West Coast Nationals Hot Rod Week, the tour here started in Canada Monday of event week and wound around the majestic northwest visiting rarely-seen private collections, bustling rod shops and breathtaking scenery before finishing during Thursday’s traditional and always-fun Poker Run hosted by the Kingsmen car club. Northwest Hot Rod Week will be back bigger and better next year!
Speaking of next year, mark your calendars the weekend of July 25, 26 & 27 for the 2014 Pacific Northwest Nationals!
