Goodguys Rod & Custom Association is extending an open invitation for hot rodders to join this fall’s Texas Road Tour. The driving tour blasts off from Goodguys Headquarters in Pleasanton Friday, September 27th and lands at Texas Motor Speedway Thursday, October 3rd covering 1,969 total miles.
The tour has gathered a LOT of steam since Tennessee rodder and racer George Poteet offered to pick up the entry fee for all 10 finalists in the 2013 Street Machine of the Year and Street Rod of the Year competition. Joining Poteet in his Steet Machine of the Year winning ’69 Torino and Street Rod of the Year winner Ron Cizek in his ’40 Ford (Yes the Ridler winner is going on a 2,000 mile road trip!) on the tour will be Jonathan Goolsby in the Lokar ‘69 Camaro, Jimmy Shaw in his Greening-built 67 Nova, and Sid Tracy in the BBT-built 69 Firebird. Street Rod of the Year finalists Harold Chapman (’33 Ford) and Terry Hudson (’37 Chevy) will also join the fun!
From the industry side, Ridetech’s Bret Voelkel will saddle up for the tour as will Billet Specialties founder and President Glenn Grozich. Goodguys Founder & Chairman Gary Meadors will come along in his ’48 Chrysler woodie while Sales Director Ed Capen will pace the tour in the new Ridetech-built Goodguys Project G/RS ’69 Camaro.
The all-inclusive 7-day road tour travels through California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Along the way, the tour will be stopping at private car collections including those of Dennis Varni, Denny Cissel, Mike Harrah, Pence Richmond, Dennis Wise, Mark Warricks, Bob Owens and Wayne Davis. Shop visits along the route will include Campbell Auto Restoration, Premier Street Rods, AirAid, Mild to Wild Classics and Painless Performance. Museum visits are also planned including visits to the Estrella Warbird & Car Museum in Paso Robles, Penske Racing, Route 66 Auto Musuem and more. On Sunday evening, Sept 29th – Lake Havasu City will block off their main street for a special “Goodguys Night” car show extravaganza.
There is a one-time entry fee of $1,500 which covers your nightly hotel, most meals and commemorative tour booklet. The entry fee also includes two tee shirts, two caps, two decals, entry to the Goodguys 21st Lone Star Nationals October 4-6 at Texas Motor Speedway and a special at-event parking area exclusive to Road Tour cars only.
