The 1953 GMC bus that Von Dutch himself owned, worked in and lived in during the 1960s will be shown for the first time in full restoration at the upcoming Goodguys 16th Southwest Nationals, November 15-17. Recently appraised at a value of nearly 6 million dollars!
Over the past 7 years, Phoenix-area pinstriper and artist Steve Kafka has painstakingly restored the bus keeping it intact as a rolling piece of automotive and artistic history. Von Dutch (AKA Kenneth Howard) converted the bus into his workshop and home on wheels. Outfitted with a lathe, drill press, metal working tools and a workbench, ‘Dutch could machine parts for car and motorcycle customizing. The “Von Dutch Bus” was also his gun shop, where he built customized guns and knives. All of the original equipment inside the bus is as it was “back in the day.”
In Scottsdale, the bus will be displayed by Kafka on the lower paddock area of Westworld. Not only will he display the bus, sharing it in fully-restored condition for the first time, he will also offering striping services to hot rodders.
