Looking Ahead to the 43rd Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction

In sifting through the 2014 car list for the annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction (to be held January 12-19, 2014 at Westworld in Scottsdale) , we noticed that unlike last year, this year’s crop seems to be a tad short on cars with Goodguys lineage.

Last year at least 10 cars with ties to Goodguys and our Terrific 12 awards program crossed the auction block. While there are certainly some more-than-relevant cars with Goodguys ties this year, there’s not the volume of years past. The total number of auction cars however seems to be up from last year.

We noticed what looks to be the best-ever assemblage of regal classics from the 1920s and 1930s, especially for late in the day Saturday, January 18th, also known as “Super Saturday. Late Saturday’s you’ll see a heavy dose of Packard’s, Rolls Royce, Mercedes and other classics.

New this year is an expanded live television package. Barrett-Jackson’s 43rd annual Scottsdale auction will be seen on channels including FOX, the FOX Business Network, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2 and the National Geographic Channel. In total, there are 36 hours and six-consecutive days of live, high-definition auction coverage. Check your local cable listings as coverage is set to begin on FOX Sports 2 Tuesday, January 14th at 7 PM ET.

Goodguys will be on hand with a booth (booth #SPON 15) so make sure and come see us to renew your Goodguys membership, pick up a 2014 event schedule and meet some of the Goodguys Gang!

Here’s a look at some of the Goodguys related cars crossing the auction block:

Bret Voelkel’s Ridetech ’33 Ford
The iconic Ridetech ’33 Ford is up for grabs! Voelkel’s mighty coupe is the defending two-time Goodguys AutoCross Hot Rod Class champion among many other on-track achievements including a win in the Optima Face Off at Road America. The 2400 pound 630 HP beast is powered by a 427 cubic inch small block Ford, built by Sunset Racecraft (Lubbock, TX) with a Dart aluminum block and Brodix Neal cylinder heads. Underneath the Factory-Five ’33 Ford skin you’ll find RideTech triple adjustable coilovers and a whole slew of other top shelf components and custom RideTech goodies. The car is fitted with 18×12 Forgeline CF3C Concave wheels with Matte Bronze centers and Satin Black inners and outers at all four corners as well as Baer brakes. Bret runs 315/30R18 Falken Azenis tires on the ’33 Ford.

Mongoose & Snake Ramp Trucks
If you’ve been to Goodguys Del Mar Nationals over the years or any of the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion events – you’ve surely seen Don Prudhomme’s amazing Funny Car Ramp Trucks. The twin 1967 Dodge D-700 Hot Wheels Ramp Trucks will be sold together as a package and include the Snake’s ’70 Plymouth Barracuda and Mongoose’s ’72 Plymouth Duster Funny Cars. All of the equipment is original and has been painstakingly restored to their original condition. One can only imagine what this package might bring!

Ringbrothers “Afterburner” ’64 Ford Fairlane
The 3-time Goodguys Street Machine of the Year-winning Ringbrothers are back at Barrett Jackson, this time offering the “Afterburner” 1964 Ford Fairlane 500.    Built by the Ringbrothers for Ken and Ev Smith, “Afterburner” debuted at the 2009 SEMA Show and made it to many Goodguys events in 2010 and 2011. It’s been chopped 1-inch, features flush mounted glass, Fatman suspension and is powered by a Roush 427cid fuel injected V8. It rolls on Forgeline wheels with Baer 6-piston brakes.

“Dragontail” ’41 Willys
David Trent’s striking green Willys built by Jason Graham Hot Rods was a Goodguys staff favorite this summer! The green flake coupe sits on a full Air Ride suspension. Body mods include a 3.5” chop, reshaped front fenders, custom running boards, waterfall dash and custom bullet hubcaps on wide whites. Under the hood is a traditionally styled small block Chevy with 3 deuces.

Dale Boesch-built ’69 Camaro
If you were at the Goodguys PPG Nationals in 2012, you no-doubt remember this Dale Boesch-built ’69 Camaro – a top 5 finalist for the Goodguys Street Machine of the Year award. With hundreds of Ridler-quality body mods, it also features a 383cid stroker motor, 700R4 transmission, 9″ Ford rear end, Detroit Speed and Engineering front and rear suspension, and 19″ Boze wheels.
