The Goodguys Colorado-Indy double header last weekend officially put the summer hot rodding season into overdrive. It’s this time of year we see the latest & greatest vintage cars (some of which boggle the imagination), reconnect with friends, spot the latest trends and share our undying passion for all things automotive.
The mile high hot rodder’s had a blast at The Ranch in Loveland – home of the 17th Colorado Nationals. Perfect 80-degree weather, huge crowds and over 2,000 cars made it a memorable weekend! In an exclusive appearance, the Beach Boys (yes those Beach Boys) ROCKED the joint on Friday night. You should have seen the smiles. The ‘Boys turned baby boomers into high schoolers again! It was full-throttle fun all weekend long from Thursday’s official kick-off party at Pinkee’s Rod Shop to Sunday’s awards ceremony.
Big news also broke in Colorado with the announcement of a date change for next year’s 18th Colorado Nationals. After thoroughly researching event dates and reviewing feedback from the mile-high hot rodding community, the decision was made to move the event to September 11-13, 2015 and will remain at the beautiful Ranch Events Complex in Loveland.
The brand new All American Nationals in Indianapolis at the historic Indiana State Fairgrounds was equally charged with electricity! The Indy party raged from Thursday’s opening bell through Sunday afternoon’s crowning of the Goodguys 2014 Tank’s Hot Rod of the Year presentation. When the votes were tallied it was the hot-hot-hot Model A Ford of Tony Lombardi taking home the spoils.
With long warm & sunny days, the Indy schedule was frenetic and fun! Early mornings gave way to action packed afternoons and big night time festivities including the Goodguys Friday Nite Drags at Lucas Oil Raceway and a wild Saturday Night Demolition Derby.
Close to 2,000 cars (and we’re talking all genres of American powered show cars) looked right at home at the lush fairgrounds. This fairgrounds teems with history! The Beatles even played here! Large paddocks, plenty of shade trees, bright green lawn areas, awesome cruise lanes and a historic covered bridge (at the show car entry) put everyone right at home. After 23 years of holding events at race tracks, Goodguys has found a comfortable home in the Hoosier State. We’ll be back June 5, 6 & 7, 2015 to do it all again!
