After months and months of anticipation, Mother Nature has put a bit of a damper on the 66th annual Speedweek up on the Bonneville Salt Flats. It’s more like the underwater salt flats as of Friday morning, August 8th!

Multiple reports from friends and allies have confirmed the salt is soaked after summer thunderstorms swept through last week. Currently, nobody is allowed on the salt but that will change soon hopefully. One racer we spoke to by phone said “I doubt if any of the fast streamliners will get to run next week” due to course conditions but hope remains!

Here’s an update from the SCTA website, governing body of Speed Week:

Course Condition Update – Salt Report Thurs Aug 7th
After reviewing the conditions, it appears that the courses are drying and we expect continued improvement. The board has decided to start site cleanup on Saturday Aug 9.

Participants will be allowed onto the salt Sunday for pit selection and inspection. We hope to begin racing on Monday Aug 11, based on course conditions.
