-The Goodguys G-10 1970 Giveaway Pickup

-The Goodguys G-10 1970 Giveaway Pickup

The Goodguys G-10 1970 Chevy Giveaway truck (being built by Justin Padfield and his team at Scott’s Hot Rods in Oxnard, CA) is heading off to the paint shop! These pictures were the last view before its all blown apart for paint over at Palmer’s Rod & Custom. Padfield says it’s not at the exact ride height in these exclusive pictures (taken just yesterday) but it’s really close.

The mods on the truck are extensive. Some of the highlights include hand-crafted recessed grill & headlights, fender flares, side exit exhaust, raised bumpers, reduced drip rail, custom scalloped side trim and many other subtleties.

Under the hood is a gnarly Linginfelter LS3 engine and TCI Automotive Transmission and controller. It will be AutoCross worthy with Scott’s own tube chassis, Scott’s IFS and standard 4-bar rear with a Scott’s Watts link, Ridetech coilovers, Wilwood brakes, a Moose rear end and more.

You have to check out the build thread over at! Click here to see all the updates which date back to November of last year.

The truck is on schedule for its debut this July at the Goodguys 17th PPG Nationals July 11-13 at the Ohio Expo Center!

Wiley X Logo_WileyX Eyewear

It’s official! Wiley X®, Inc. is now the preferred sunglass of the Goodguys Rod and Custom Association. The new sponsorship agreement between Goodguys and Wiley X Shades puts the Bay Area sunglass manufacturer front and center at the nation’s leading performance automotive events, reaching hundreds of thousands with a message of style and vision protection

Through the new sponsorship agreement, Wiley X will be featured prominently at 19 Goodguys events across the country, including the Goodguys 28th West Coast Nationals August 22-24 at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds in California. Wiley X will be a featured exhibitor at the West Coast Nationals, and will be on hand to share its extensive line of performance protective eyewear and promote the importance of premium vision protection. Wiley X will be promoted at Goodguys events in a variety of ways, including on-site banners, public address announcements, visitor goody bags, website promotions, advertising in the Goodguys Goodtimes Gazette, and more.

“These events are a great venue for us and an ideal way to reach out to a broad new audience,” said Wiley X Co-Owner Myles Freeman, Jr. “We have a strong ‘track record’ promoting our sunglass line through top NASCAR drivers and other racing-related activities, and custom car enthusiasts are a natural extension of this. In addition, the Goodguys are headquartered in the East Bay area, like us, and this fits well with our goal of partnering with like-minded businesses both locally and nationally,” added Freeman.

Wiley X has a growing reputation for providing racing and automotive enthusiasts, motorcycle riders, active outdoorsmen and others with clear vision and superior vision protection. Its extensive product roster includes innovative eyewear families such as the Climate Control™ Series, with a patented, removable soft-foam Facial Cavity™ Seal that protects the eyes against wind, dust and peripheral light; or Wiley X’s Changeable Series sunglasses that allow wearers to quickly switch lenses to suit changing environmental conditions.

All told, Wiley X offers dozens of models for a wide range of activities, every one meeting stringent ANSI Z87.1 High Velocity and High Mass Impact Safety standards for occupational-grade eye protection. Wiley X is the only premium sunglass brand with this level of vision protection in every pair of glasses it makes — a key reason why the company is a leading provider of protective eyewear to the U.S. military, law enforcement and other tactical wearers worldwide. In addition, almost every Wiley X style is
Rx-Ready, making the brand a great choice for people who require prescription lenses but also demand state-of-the-art eye protection.

The Goodguys 14th Del Mar Nationals which wrapped up yesterday north of San Diego, was an electrifying mix of sunshine, the West’s finest vintage rods, customs and muscle cars, beach culture and full throttle excitement.

Held at the scenic Del Mar Fairgrounds located a stone’s throw from the turquoise-blue Pacific Ocean, the event attracted over 2,000 show cars and a weekend crowd in excess of 60,000. They came to see the cars, shop the vendors, hang on the fence to watch the AutoCross, and witness the crowning of the March Performance Street Rod d’Elegance – the weekend’s signature award.

When the final votes were tallied, it was Wes & Vivian Rydell’s 1935 Chevy Phaeton that took the top prize. The regally styled Chevy burst on the scene earlier this year winning America’s Most Beautiful Roadster at the Grand National Roadster Show.

Click here to see all the weekend award winners.

Perhaps the most popular car on the Goodguys AutoCross track was actually a truck! Wes Drelleshak drove his 1959 Chevy Apache Pickup to the win in the Truck Class with a 64.377 – amazingly just three seconds off the fastest lap by so and so’s Corvette – the fastest car of the weekend.

Click here for complete AutoCross results.

Youth was also served in Del Mar. The Hot Rodder’s of Tomorrow Engine Challenge featured over 100 high school auto shop students in a timed engine building challenge. Rancho Alamitos High School from Garden Grove won the competition, tearing down then building back up a small block Chevy engine (using only hand tools) in a time of 28 minutes and 21 seconds!

Goodguys will return to the beach next April for the 15th annual Del Mar Nationals.
