Woodworking and metal fabrication are arts of similar ilk and in the case of this magnificent 1949 Chevy 3100 pickup truck, the two art forms were combined into a hot rod masterpiece!

Owned by Scott and Kathi Muse of Tuscon, AZ, this ’49 Chevy pickup was built by Classic Customs in Phoenix, Arizon. A truly custom truck, the Chevy features a chopped top, suicide doors, custom bed and bed floor, 1937 DeSoto taillights with matching DeSoto exhaust tips, custom running boards, custom tailgate hinges, as well as custom window frames and trim. All of this is topped off with a gorgeous House of Kolor Brandywine paint scheme.

The bed alone is a masterpiece in its own right, built as a collaboration between the metalsmiths at Classic Customs and owner Scott Muse – a world-class woodworker. The custom-built bed was constructed of 16-gauge steel and Chromoly tubing with 1 ½-inch bedsides, shaved running boards, and a wrap-around design to flow perfectly with the truck’s fenders and accentuate the truck’s chopped roofline. The bed floor was all Scott Muse’s design, which features hand-routed flames in pillowed Maple wood.

Inside the truck, you’ll find a 1955 Chevy dash and steering wheel, Dakota Digital gauges, an ididit column shifter, 6-way adjustable Recaro seats wrapped in Ultra leather with suede inserts, and matching Mercedes-Benz carpeting. The truck is so posh, it features cruise control, electric windows and remote and keyless-start capabilities in addition to air conditioning and heat.


Not to be outdone by the aesthetics of the build, the performance components appointed to the truck are far from lacking. A fuel-injected LS3 with aluminum heads, Billet Specialties valve covers, a Holley Hi-Ram intake, Art Morrison headers, and a custom exhaust system supply the motorvation. Backed by a 4L70E automatic transmission, this bad LS boasts 510 horsepower.

Continuing with the performance fare, the truck sits atop an Art Morrison chassis equipped with a custom adjustable coilover suspension system up front and a 4-link with adjustable coilovers in the rear. Stopping power comes from massive 14-inch Wilwood brakes paired with 6-piston calipers, while the truck’s superior pavement-gripping capabilities come from Michelin Pilot Sports wrapped around 18-inch front and 20-inch rear Billet Specialties hoops.
