Hold on to your ten-gallon hats, folks! Goodguys is kicking off the 2018 event season in style at the 8th Spring Lone Star Nationals at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth!
You never know what type of weather to expect in Texas in early spring, but the horsepower gods were shining down on us today as we kicked off the weekend with plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures in the 70s. Texas rodders responded by bringing out a killer variety of cool hot rods, customs, classics and, of course, trucks. This is the first national event where we’ve had registration open to 1987-and-earlier vehicles and next-generation enthusiasts are making their presence known! We’ve already seen a ton of cool squarebody pickups, along with ’70s and ’80s Camaros, Mustangs and other cool performance machines. It’s a new era, and we’re excited to expand the party!
There’s a full roster of activities on tap for this fun-filled weekend! Painter extraordinaire KC Mathieu from KC’s Paint Shop is on hand to select our Builder’s Choice Top 10, while Jeff Allen and Meggan Bailey from CNBC’s “The Car Chasers” TV show are on site signing autographs. There will be plenty of tire smoke and burning rubber at the Burnout Contest, ground-pounding mechanical music at the Nitro Thunderfest, plus oval-track action with Team Texas ride-alongs and the Saturday Track Cruise. CMT country music artist Ashley Wineland will even bring her Simple Life tour to the Goodguys stage on Sunday!
Over on the AutoCross course, cone-carving competitors are shaking off the winter cobwebs and getting back into the groove. Squealing tires and roaring engines are a welcome sound after a few months off, and we’ve seen some fresh new cars from longtime competitors that are sure to be big-time threats this season. We’ll see who has the right stuff as we narrow it down to a 16-car field for the Tremec Lone Star Shootout Saturday afternoon.
With plenty of parts vendors on hand, a full swap meet, kids fun and more, it’s going to be a full-throttle weekend here in North Texas. If you’re anywhere near Fort Worth, you owe it to yourself to come down and help us kick off the 2018 season!
