-Scenic Beech Bend Raceway Raceway Park came alive with rods, customs and vintage race cars during the Goodguys 4th Nostalgia Nationals

The Goodguys gang made a high speed return to historic Beech Bend Raceway Park last weekend, filling the scenic facility with fast cars & good times under warm fall skies.  Absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder as speed demons and show & shiners from around the region rejoined the fun after a four year event hiatus. While the lightning fast drag strip featured three full throttle days of Goodguys Vintage Drag Racing, the grassy west side of the property filled up with chrome and color. It was as if we’d never been away!

Hot rod happenings filled the plate throughout the weekend. The tone was set early Friday morning as the Nostalgia Nationals was the final leg of the Goodguys Hall of Fame Road Tour presented by Barrett-Jackson, Spraway, Customs and Hot Rods of Andice and Goolsby Customs. The entire group of road rebels, fresh off their five-day 1,800 Mike journey embodied the hot rod spirit and set the tone for the fun weekend. Over 1,000 vintage rods & custom joined them making it a sizzlin’ scene. Tour participant Jesse Greening did double duty over the weekend by selecting the Builder’s Choice awards presenting each winner with spectacular awards he and his team designed and manufactured in house!

Out on the drag strip, fabulous Funny Cars, awesome Fuel Altereds, gear bangin’ Outlaw Gassers and a 120-car-strong contingent of vintage veterans from the Midwest based Nostalgia Drag Racing League filled the bleach box with wall to wall action. Highlighting the nitro fueled fun were the funny cars of Bazz Young, Anthony Bronge, Greg Jacobsmeyer and Troy Ray as well as Rich Guasco’s Pure Hell vs Ron Hope’s Rat Trap. The big boys did not disappoint with thunderous 250mph quarter mile mayhem!

Even more high speed thrills filled Beech Bend’s paved oval as Goodguys AutoCross racers held it to the wood on the season’s biggest and fastest course. Flanking the oval were manufacturer displays offering a high speed emporium offering hi tech parts for the masses. With just three events remaining before the season-ending Scottsdale Shootout November 20-22, the pace was torrid in the race for prized points the four Goodguys AutoCross classes. Tyler Powell (48.730) took the PRO win while Joe Gregory (49.508) won Street Machine, Mark Stringer (55.454) won Hot Rod and Mike Mitchell (52.978) won the Truck class.

The vintage swap meet & AutoTrader Classics Cars 4 Sale Corral & FREE fun stuff for the kids rounded out a winning weekend.

Hopped up hot rods, good friends, perfect weather and three days of Goodguys Goodtimes in a beautiful country setting? Heck yes! It’s good to be back in Bowling Green!
