Sixty three year old retired wrecking yard owner Dennis Brazer of Vallejo, California was the lucky winner of the Goodguys 2016/2017 Grand Prize Giveaway ’63 ½ Ford Galaxie built by Tennessee’s Legens Hot Rod. He was one of 22 finalists on hand from around the country who had been pre-qualified throughout the 2016/2017 season. And man, what a car he won. And better yet, he will be driving it back home to the west coast!

A modern day Pro-Touring style car wrapped in vintage sheet metal, it was designed by artist and Goodguys 2016 Trendsetter Eric Brockmeyer  then hand-crafted by Steve Legens and his team. The original car (including a complete parts donor car) was generously provided by hot rodding’s chief philanthropist George Poteet. The project made its debut here one year ago at the Goodguys PPG Nationals in Columbus.

Giveaway Galaxie winner Dennis Brazer of Vallejo, CA shakes the hand of giveaway car builder Steve Legens.

Brazer’s new  PPG Tan Galaxie features clean lines, muted bronze bumpers, and trim by Advanced Plating as well as other goodies from Dennis Carpenter. It can hold its own at the drag strip or on the AutoCross! Growling inside the smoothed engine bay is a potent Ford Racing Performance 5.0 Coyote V8 mated to a Tremec transmission resting inside a high-performance chassis from Roadster Shop. Baer brakes fit snugly inside one-off color-matched Greening Auto Company wheels designed and cut by Jesse Greening himself. Greening also made the custom side trim. The sporty brown leather interior, featuring Dakota Digital instruments, climate control by Vintage Air, a sporty Hurst shifter and a Kicker audio system was designed and stitched in-house at Legens.

Brazer held the 17th of 22 keys in the ceremony, hopped in and fired it right up as the crowd went berzerk. Brazer has been a car guy workaholic his entire life and regularly attends Goodguys events at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds in his chopped and channeled ’33 Ford. He has been a Goodguys member since 1994. When he fired up the car, he appeared stoic, almost confident that he would be the one to take it home. He was right!

In addition to the suppliers listed above, Goodguys would like to thank the following companies for their contributions to the ’63 ½ Galaxie Giveaway Car: Ron Francis Wiring, Afco, Speedway Motors, Be Cool, Rick’s Stainless Tanks, Flaming River, PRC, Dynamat, Nu-Relics, GT Performance, Quiet Ride Solutions, Bowler Transmissions, Wise Guys, Lokar, Powermaster, Flowmaster, Optima Batteries, Sanderson Headers, Unisteer, Evercoat, Lucas Oil, Quick Time, 3M, Meguiar’s, BF Goodrich, Newport Engineering, Grundy Worldwide Insurance, Total Cost Involved, K & N Filters, Strange Engineering, Vintage Glass, and Clayton Machine.
