It’s autumn in Kentucky, which means Goodguys is rolling into Beach Bend Raceway Park for the 6th Nostalgia Nationals!
We kicked off this three-day spectacle of speed and style with a first-rate Friday. Countless street rods, customs, muscle cars, trucks and classics cruised in down the winding, picturesque Beach Bend lanes this morning as fog filled the air and dew covered the grass. And the fall colors? They came coated on the vintage steel of all the fine Southern iron rolling through the gates – and blasting down one of the oldest continually operating drag strips in the country.
If opening day was any indicator, the rest of the weekend should be spectacular! Hundreds of front-engine dragsters, Altereds, Funny Cars and 1979-and-older door slammers, plus hot rods and street machines, will be duking it out on the two-lane strip. The show field, meanwhile, will be bursting with cool vintage iron. Jesse Greening of Greening Auto will be busy looking for choice rides to receive his Top 10 Builder’s Choice awards, and we’ll also be selecting a finalist for Muscle Car of the Year. Add in a few dozen other awards up for grabs, and we’re sure to see some fine machines.
The tire squealing isn’t just limited to the strip here. We’ll also have cone-dodging, hard-turning action on the AutoCross course. The goal is the same – to get to the end of the track in the quickest time possible – but tight turns and curves between start and finish result in a whole different kind of action. There’s also attractions like a swap meet and Cars 4 Sale Corral, kids activities and plenty of vendors to help with parts for your project. If you’re anywhere near this historic strip, you’ll definitely want to stop by and check out the action. Come join us!
