Wednesday, September 28th – This morning dawned bright and sunny in Tuscaloosa, Alabama – home of the world famous Alabama Crimson Tide. While it would be fun to stick around for Saturday’s big game against Kentucky, our group got off to an early morning start with a visit to the BFGoodrich tire plant and warehouse here in Tuscaloosa.

While the massive facility is by far the largest stop of the tour, BFG is in the process of expanding it even more. One of just two BFG plants in the United States, it was the perfect opportunity to bring our cars for a parking lot social and talk tire tread. As the factory workers began to stream outside for a look at our motorcade, it became clear it was the highlight of their day. They loved it!

BFGoodrich served up hundreds of cups of coffee and fresh pastries.

Once we finished burning rubber with BFG, we motated west across state lines to Meridian, Mississippi to visit our friends at Mike Goldman Customs. Mike, Talbert, Sheri and the MGC crew were ready for us with lunch and smiles. We got the chance to look around their impressive shop and relax in the warm southern sun. Their compound is in a park-like setting, which makes it feel like a picnic.

Home to many award winners, the Goldman’s broke through in 2013 when Talbert’s ’49 Studebaker pickup won Goodguys Truck of the Year-Early. In 2014, Gary Brown’s MGC-built ’57 Chevy pickup won Goodguys Truck of the Year-Late. The hits kept coming as they also scored Street Machine of the Year honors in 2015 with Sonny and Debbie Freeman’s white ’67 Corvette. On the heels of all that, they also built our Goodguys Grand Prize Giveaway Roadster, which was won earlier this summer by Gaylord Schroeder.

Talbert Goldman greeted the Road Tour guests as they arrived at Mike Goldman Customs.

We were long overdue to visit the Goldman’s and it made for a great afternoon. We then legged it further west to Vicksburg for the night. It all made for a memorable and wide open Wednesday!

No real mechanical issues to report other than Bob Johnson needing to get the tires re-balanced on his Chevy wagon. One more note. The weather was spectacular today with crystal blue skies, low humidity, and temperatures in the mid-80s.
