The 50th annual SEMA Show has come and gone leaving lasting impressions of just how far the hot rodding and performance automotive industry has come in half a century. SEMA, started back in 1967 under the grandstands at Dodger Stadium, has grown to encompass 2.7 million square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space, a 4-day crowd in excess of 200,000 people and attracts over 1,500 specialty vehicles to the Las Vegas Convention Center, at least 500 of which are customized vintage and contemporary hot rods, customs, muscle cars and trucks.
While never an easy proposition to whittle the field down then stamp them as GOLD winners, this year proved especially tough.
With so many outstanding vehicles on hand, including over one hundred debut cars in Central Hall alone, our Goodguys team decided to select our own Top 5 SEMA cars beginning in 2013. Known as the Goodguys GOLD Awards, our top 5 vehicles are selected with the intention of showcasing what is trending in hot rodding as well as cars and trucks that feature superior craftsmanship and execution. Many of the cars we see here go on to do great things in our Goodguys event tour along with other industry events. We pick a field of contenders then deliberate, pontificate, and extrapolate until we boil the field down to our favorite five.
While never an easy proposition to whittle the field down then stamp them as GOLD winners, this year proved especially tough. Many insiders said it was the “strongest SEMA field ever seen.” In the end, we think this year’s Goodguys GOLD winners strongly reflect automotive excellence and achievement. The five vehicles mirror the hot rodding landscape while pushing boundaries at the same time. We say without reservation, this is the highest quality quintet to date. Here goes!
