We just wrapped up the 17th running of the Great Northwest Nationals in Spokane, Washington and it was a barn-burner of an event! Over 1,000 hot rods and classics from Washington, various provinces in Canada, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and one road warrior all the way from Iowa rolled in and joined us for over 72-hours of non-stop fun.

The weekend started off on Thursday for some of us as a local Hot Rod Run was organized and hosted by our event Host Club – The Dukes Auto Club of Spokane. We swung by and checked out local stops & shops like TP Certified Hot Rods, Jack Kline’s private collection, Andy’s Classic Mustangs and ended at Lone Wolf Harley Davidson for a rockin’ kickoff party.

The gates swung open early Friday morning and we knew we were in for a treat. Hundreds of cars eagerly rolled in first thing and by noon it was pushing 1,000. We featured the HASSIE Auto Club who had their own special parking area to display their members’ rides. They were a great group of guys & gals and we were proud to have them join us.

The weekend was packed with various activities from industry-leading manufactures vending both inside and out, a jammed packed indoor car show, fun kids’ activities, the Goodgals Gallery, smokin’ deals in the Swap Meet, a Pinstripers Brush Bash, the model car show and engines revved at the Nitro Thunderfest and Burnout Contest. Live music blasted on Saturday and Sunday from The Pop Offs and we can’t forget about the TGIF party on Friday night over at the Mirabeau Park Hotel that went well beyond the setting sun.

We handed out some serious hardware on Sunday with the Top 10 Builders Choice awards being selected by JF Launier’s JF Kustoms. We also picked another finalist for the 2018 MSD Muscle Car of the Year running which went to Brandie Broomhall and her 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge. Mike Stedman’s 1948 Ford F1 pickup was selected as the Gazette Pick while Trevor Robinson’s 1952 Ford Customline was chosen for the FuelCurve.com Feature Award. Be sure to keep your eyes open for more on these rides in an upcoming issue of the Gazette.

As many of you are aware, there are wildfires burning up and down the west coast right now and most of Washington (including Spokane) has been dealing with lingering smoke and poor air quality. We were thankful for clean air during most of the weekend and appreciate the Northwest hot rodders for braving the smoke and joining us in Spokane for what turned out to be an excellent Great Northwest Nationals weekend!

The Goodguys semi-truck is now loaded up and rolling south back to our home base of Pleasanton, CA. Tomorrow we kick off Hot Rod Week by touring different areas of the Bay Area through Thursday. On Friday morning our “Crown Jewel” event will commence – the 32nd running of the West Coast Nationals presented by BASF. We cant wait to see you all there!
