If you’re an American hot rodder or performance enthusiast who values what our car culture and our country stands for, you couldn’t have asked for a better time last weekend at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds. With a venue full of power and patriotism, the Goodguys 28th Fuelcurve.com Autumn Get-Together was a wide open weekend of fun – the last Get-Together for California hot rodders before Thanksgiving and a four month break until the 36th All American Get-Together rolls around March 24 & 25, 2018.
This event is special for many reasons, first and foremost due to Veteran’s Day. In honor of our Freedom Fighters, the event is free to all active and retired military. For the Veterans, they get treated to rides in Corvettes as the “Vette’s for Vets” parade takes them past admiring crowds. It’s an awesome site! As the color guard posted the colors, the live singing of the National Anthem brought the house down. Not only that – the Pleasanton Military Families held a drive called “Adopt a Care Package” where attendees donated funds towards sending the soldiers overseas care packages for the holiday season.
As for the high-powered weekend activities, they seemed nonstop over a frenetic 48 hours. Over 2,500 American powered show cars created a sea of chrome and candy while the vendor midway and swap meet/cars 4 sale corral offered up yearend specials. Indoors, a special truck exhibit was held offering every kind of hot hauler imaginable. In another building, the Tow Girlz/Tow Boyz vintage camper exhibit took us back to the days before “Glamping,” satellite TV’s and hookups. These things were too cool!
Then things got downright awesome as the “Smash 4 Cash” demo derby pitted 20 cars together in a series of competitions on a special dirt course. All proceeds went to benefit the Hayward Firefighters Local 1909 Charity. Off in another area the tire smoke started to fill the air as the burnout contest melted tires and had fans screaming. Two full days of Goodguys AutoCross helped melt the pavement as well.
These 48 hours went by in a blur. Most importantly of all, our Freedom Fighters heard us loud and clear – the car community is grateful for you and behind you 100%! Thank you for all you men and women do for our country!
